PANGKALPINANG -- To support the education program of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province in inviting people to donate blood, PT Timah Tbk handed over hundreds of sacks of rice as spiritual attachments which will be distributed to donors.
In commemoration of World Blood Donor Day, PMI Bangka Belitung held a blood donor for the community in an activity entitled 'Let's Donate Blood Together' which was held at the PMI Bangka Belitung Office on Wednesday (14/6/2023).
PT Timah Tbk is collaborating with PMI Bangka Belitung to provide donors with an emotional bond, it is hoped that the community will be more interested in donating blood.
Chairman of PMI Bangka Belitung, Abdul Fatah said PMI Babel is trying to invite the public to donate blood so they can help others. Moreover, the need for blood in Babylon was quite high.
According to Fatah, his party is trying to pick up the ball by inviting various groups of people to donate blood. Education is also being carried out so that the general public is more familiar with blood donation.
"We are trying to carry out a multifansi intervention by working with various parties including PT Timah Tbk to invite the people of Babylon to become interested in donating blood," he said.
Fatah explained that the public's willingness to donate blood is quite good, especially if it is held at big events. However, consistency in implementation still needs more education.
"Public awareness for blood donation is still low but willingness is high, this is what we need to educate again. PMI picks up the ball to come to campus, to vertical agencies and OPD, with blood donation activities like this we want to familiarize blood donors first," said Fatah.
He mentioned, having an inner circle could also attract people to donate blood.
"Donating blood is to help others, but when you are with a blood donor and get an inner friend you will be more interested. After they are familiar with this, hopefully, they will be consistent for donating once every three months," said Fatah.
Fatah also hopes that PT Timah Tbk will continue to collaborate with PMI in carrying out blood donation activities and continuing to educate the public to carry out blood donors.
"PMI has several programs such as disaster management, handling social conflicts, providing healthy and safe blood and PMI also builds human resources through volunteers. We are humanitarian social organizations who are here to help others, hopefully, later we can continue to collaborate with PT Timah Tbk," he said. (*)
