Collaboration to Support Education Development, PT Timah Facilitates Dozens of Vocational Students from SMK Negeri 1 Mentok for Internship

BANGKA BARAT – In support of the education sector implementing the "Merdeka Belajar" (Freedom to Learn) program, PT Timah is facilitating students to carry out internships (PKL) at the company.

This time, 26 students from SMK Negeri 1 Mentok will conduct their internship at PT Timah’s Processing and Refinery Division, starting from Monday (21/10/2024) for the next four months.

This initiative is part of PT Timah's commitment to support education development, particularly in preparing competent young generations ready to enter the workforce, while also bridging the gap between the education sector and the professional world.

The students will have the opportunity to directly observe the company’s operations, understand the professional work culture, and develop the technical skills required in the industry.

The students from SMK Negeri 1 Mentok who will be interning at PT Timah come from various departments, including Industrial Chemical Engineering (TKI) and Computer Network Engineering (TJK).

Before starting their internship at PT Timah, the students received preliminary training.

Adi Kusumardi, the internship supervisor, said that the internship is part of the learning process in the "Merdeka" curriculum.

"In the 'Merdeka' curriculum, internships are part of learning, applying the lessons that have been taught, and adding material that has not yet been covered," he explained.

According to him, PT Timah is an ideal company for their students to gain practical experience.

"PT Timah is suitable as an internship venue for students, based on its geographical location and its alignment with our competencies," he stated.

Meanwhile, Tasya, a student from the Industrial Chemistry department and the head of the student council at SMKN 1 Mentok expressed her excitement and dream of learning at PT Timah.

"I’m very happy to be able to intern at PT Timah because, before entering SMK, I had already aspired to learn (intern) at PT Timah. Considering that Bangka Belitung is rich in tin and PT Timah is the largest company in the region, I’m interested because PT Timah is a producer and exporter of tin in Indonesia," she said. (*)
