BANGKA SELATAN -- To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), PT Timah Tbk provided tangible support by donating 200 food packages that will be distributed to the people of Bangka Selatan who participated in the blood donation drive organized by PMI Bangka Selatan.
This assistance was handed over directly to PMI Bangka Selatan as a form of the company’s commitment to supporting social and humanitarian activities. The handover took place at the Bangka Selatan Regent’s Office on Friday (September 19, 2025).
Chairwoman of PMI Bangka Selatan, Debby Vita Dewi, expressed her appreciation for PT Timah’s contribution to the series of events marking PMI’s 80th anniversary in Bangka Selatan Regency.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to PT Timah for this extraordinary support. PT Timah is the first company to provide such significant assistance to PMI Bangka Selatan. This contribution not only benefits the community but also motivates us at PMI Bangka Selatan to keep moving forward,” she said.
The food packages were distributed alongside the blood donation activities that form part of the PMI anniversary series. These activities are taking place from September 14 to 28, 2025, across two locations, including one at Toboali Town Square.
She added that blood donation is a routine activity carried out by PMI Bangka Selatan two to three times each month through roadshows involving companies, local government agencies (Forkopimda), and regional apparatus organizations (OPD). However, the demand for blood in Bangka Selatan remains very high, often causing shortages in supply.
“Our annual target is more than 500 bags of blood. With PT Timah’s support, the number of food packages distributed this year is much greater than usual. We hope that more companies will take part in this humanitarian effort,” she explained.
The peak celebration of the 80th anniversary in Bangka Selatan Regency will be held on September 28, 2025, featuring a variety of events such as a mass blood donation, a Red Cross Youth (PMR) parade, activities for children with thalassemia, a traditional tumpeng competition, group exercise, and an awards ceremony.
In addition, PMI Bangka Selatan will also sign an MoU with self-sufficient villages to establish blood donor communities in each village. This initiative is expected to make it easier to meet blood needs while also building a donor database that can be quickly mobilized whenever residents require assistance. (*)
