Collaboration in Reforestation Efforts: PT Timah Provides Seedling Assistance to KSM Resam Compost House

BANGKA — To support environmental preservation and greening efforts in the Matras area of Bangka Regency, PT Timah, through its Engineering and Operation Excellence (EOE) Division, has provided tree seedlings to KSM Resam (Matras Creative House).

The seedling distribution coincided with the “HARI CERDAS” (Smart Day) event—an acronym for Helipad, Asri (Green), Rapi (Neat), and Indah (Beautiful) – A Reflection of Environmentally Friendly Education and Dedication—held at the Helipad of Balai Karya Sungailiat, Bangka, on Thursday (July 3, 2025).

This activity is a tangible form of synergy between PT Timah and the community to support the development of a green ecosystem and productive open spaces around PT Timah's operational areas.

The donated seedlings include a variety of plants such as mango, matoa, rambutan, and durian trees.

KSM Resam Compost House is a strategic partner of PT Timah in community-based environmental management, particularly in the Sungailiat region. As a center for education and organic waste processing, KSM Resam processes leaves into compost and collects plastic waste from the Matras beach area to be recycled into reusable items such as bracelets and bags.

Arizal, the Head of KSM Resam, stated that the seedlings provided by PT Timah would be planted and managed properly to bring long-term benefits to the community.

“These seedlings will be planted around the compost house so that the public can visit and gather here. We hope it will become an agro-tourism site with its own unique appeal,” he said.

He expressed his appreciation and hope that PT Timah will continue to show its commitment to sustainable environmental care.

“We thank PT Timah for the seedlings provided. We hope PT Timah will continue contributing to reforestation efforts and help turn barren areas into lush, green spaces again,” he added.

This initiative is part of the PT Timah Balai Karya program, run by the EOE Division, as a strategic step in supporting the achievement of the Green PROPER award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). Through this program, PT Timah emphasizes the importance of integrating corporate environmental responsibility with community empowerment.

In addition to the seedling distribution and the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (NKB), the event also featured a joint community clean-up involving residents and PT Timah employees. Activities included cleaning the Helipad area of Balai Karya and sorting waste into organic and non-organic categories, as part of efforts to cultivate a culture of environmental awareness from the source.

To strengthen environmental management facilities, PT Timah also provided additional support in the form of waste containers, trash bins, vegetable seeds, angsana tree seedlings, and biomass. These were handed over to various partners, including the Indonesian Renewable Energy Society (METI), which is also collaborating on environmental programs in the Balai Karya area.(*)
