WEST BANGKA -- PT Timah Tbk has again carried out mangrove planting in the coastal area of ??West Bangka Regency. This time mangrove planting was carried out at Belo Laut Beach, Mentok District, West Bangka Regency, on Monday (18/9/2023).
Previously, PT Timah Tbk also carried out mangrove planting in the Bozem Beach Tourism area, Rubiah Bay, Muntok District, West Bangka Regency on August 8.
This mangrove planting was carried out by PT Timah Tbk employees together with the community. This member of the MIND ID mining industry holding company continues to promote mangrove planting as an effort to realize Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060.
This mangrove planting activity has been carried out several times in this area, apart from planting, PT Timah Tbk also replants damaged mangroves.
Mangroves have an important role in protecting coastal ecosystems, such as preventing abrasion and maintaining coastal ecosystems which can be used for the development of marine biota.
This mangrove planting was also enthusiastically welcomed by the local community, as stated by Kamora, a resident of Belo Laut, who hopes that mangrove planting can restore the marine biota ecosystem.
"By greening the land on the coast, we hope that the marine ecosystem can flourish because it will be easier to get shrimp, fish, and others," he said.
In the same vein, Yulva said, Belo Laut residents admitted that they were involved in planting mangroves because of personal awareness. "Of course, we want to return things to the way they were before, this area used to be famous for its many marine resources, such as shrimp, crabs, and fish. So we are happy to be involved in planting mangroves," said Yulva.
Kadus 2 Belo Laut David said that apart from PT Timah employees, the mangrove planting activity was also attended by residents.
"Apart from PT Timah employees, our residents, mothers, and fathers are involved in mangrove planting activities on the coast of Belo Laut. PT Timah Tbk often carries out mangrove planting activities in the Belo Laut area," he said. (*)
