WEST BANGKA – As part of its commitment to inclusive education and community empowerment, PT Timah has extended its support to the Belo Laut Elderly Empowerment School in West Bangka Regency.
As a member of the Mining Industry Holding MIND ID, PT Timah provided activity uniforms for the Belo Laut Elderly Empowerment School, which was officially launched by the West Bangka Government on October 17, 2024.
The principal of the Belo Laut Elderly Empowerment School, Granada, stated that PT Timah's support will be used for the school's activities.
"The Belo Laut Elderly Empowerment School is the first elderly school in West Bangka, and it greatly needs support from the government and other parties who care for the elderly. The uniforms provided by PT Timah will be used for the activities of the elderly participants," she said.
She expressed her gratitude to PT Timah for their care and support in helping the school.
"PT Timah has shown care by supporting the activities of the Belo Laut Elderly Empowerment School, thus empowering the elderly to foster independence and enthusiasm while actively interacting within the community," she added.
The elderly learning program has been running for four months, offering various activities such as health education, religious teachings, and social interactions.
Meanwhile, the school manager, Mariyam, mentioned that the Belo Laut Elderly Empowerment School offers a curriculum aimed at keeping the elderly productive.
"The curriculum covers seven dimensions, including physical and spiritual dimensions, among others, to support the independence and empowerment of the elderly," she explained.
Mariyam further emphasized that one of the school's goals is to help the elderly become self-reliant, or better yet, engage in productive and beneficial activities.
"The aim is to enable the elderly to take care of themselves and, ideally, contribute positively and productively," she added.
She expressed her appreciation for PT Timah's concern for the elderly and hopes for continued support from the company in the future.
"We are very grateful to PT Timah for their assistance, as it is highly meaningful for the activities of this elderly school. Hopefully, PT Timah will continue to thrive in the future," Mariyam concluded.(*)
