KUNDUR -- PT Timah Tbk continues to promote sustainable environmental management programs, one of which is to mitigate climate change by planting mangroves in the company's operational areas.
Apart from planting mangroves, PT Timah Tbk at the Kundur Production Unit also carries out mangrove replanting as a step in maintaining mangroves, especially for mangroves that are not well developed.
At the Kundur Production Unit in 2023, PT Timah Tbk has embroidered 2500 mangroves at three locations at Timun Beach, Mata Air Beach, and Padang Kundur Beach, Kundur Village, West Kundur District.
Head of Corporate Communications at PT Timah Tbk Anggi Siahaan said that mangrove replanting was carried out so that the mangroves that had been planted could grow and develop well.
well so that it can protect coastal ecosystems.
"We hope that by replanting mangroves, mangroves can grow well and optimally so that our efforts to reduce the impact of coastal erosion and support climate change mitigation can be achieved," he said.
Many mangrove forests will be very useful for supporting environmental ecosystems and also supporting economic resources for fishermen and coastal communities.
In carrying out this embroidery, PT Timah collaborated with the local community. This is a form of empowerment, providing economic value for the community and also inviting the community to care about the mangroves that have been planted.
The Village Head, Kundur Marhalim, expressed his appreciation to companies that have a high concern for the environment, one of which is planting mangroves.
"Hopefully this mangrove planting activity can save locations around the coast from the impact of abrasion which is quite severe," he hoped. (*)
