PANGKALPINANG -- The spirit of sharing and caring for others was an integral part of PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk’s 50th anniversary celebration. As part of its Bulan Bakti (Month of Service) series of activities, PT TIMAH once again held a blood donation drive in Pangkalpinang as part of its efforts to help meet the blood supply needs of communities across the Bangka Belitung Islands Province.
The blood donation drive was held in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Pangkalpinang City at the PT TIMAH Graha Timah building in Pangkalpinang on Saturday (August 22, 2026). The event received an enthusiastic response from the community, resulting in the collection of 235 units of blood.
Hundreds of participants took part in the humanitarian initiative, demonstrating the community’s enthusiasm for sharing and helping those in need. The activity is in line with the theme of PT TIMAH’s 50th anniversary, “Timah Untuk Rakyat” (“Timah for the People”).
Chairman of the Pangkalpinang City PMI, Muhammad Iqbal, expressed his appreciation for PT TIMAH’s continued commitment to contributing through annual blood donation activities.
“Happy 50th anniversary to PT TIMAH Tbk. May you continue to succeed, prosper, and thrive in the tin mining industry. We greatly appreciate this mass blood donation drive, which successfully collected hundreds of units of blood,” Iqbal said.
According to him, the collaboration between PMI and PT TIMAH through blood donation activities has been maintained on an ongoing basis. He hopes the partnership will continue, not only through blood donation drives but also through other humanitarian initiatives.
“Every year, thank God, we have always partnered with PT TIMAH, and we hope this good collaboration will continue through other humanitarian activities as well,” he said.
Iqbal said that the demand for blood in Bangka Belitung is relatively high, making public participation in blood donation efforts very meaningful. He also encouraged people who have never donated blood before not to hesitate to participate.
“For those who have never donated blood, don’t be afraid. Besides being a form of social action, donating blood can also help maintain our health. As PMI’s motto says, a single drop of blood can be invaluable to someone’s life,” he said.
The spirit of humanity was also felt by Sapari (40), one of the donors who has regularly donated blood since his college days.
The resident of South Bangka, who works in the area, learned about the Bulan Bakti PT TIMAH blood donation drive through a WhatsApp group for the Pangkalpinang donor community. He made time to once again donate his blood.
For Sapari, blood donation is more than just a routine activity. He feels that it benefits him personally while also giving him a sense of fulfillment from being able to help others in need.
“Thankfully, I feel healthier and more refreshed afterward. The availability of blood is greatly needed here in Bangka, while the number of donors is still limited. So, besides the health benefits, I also feel a social calling to help families or others who need blood,” he said.
He hopes that PT TIMAH will continue to organize social activities such as blood donation drives and extend their benefits to an even wider community.
“I hope PT TIMAH will continue to do its best for Bangka Belitung, especially in improving the welfare of its employees and, more broadly, contributing to the well-being of the people of Bangka Belitung,” he concluded.
Through this activity, PT TIMAH, together with PMI and the participating donors, helped maintain the continuity of the blood supply while fostering a spirit of mutual cooperation and solidarity to help others.
Previously, similar blood donation drives had been held in various areas within the Company’s operational regions, including Bangka, West Bangka, South Bangka, Central Bangka, Kundur, and Jakarta. (*)
