Building Hope at a Special Needs School: PT Timah Provides Eco Print Batik Training at SLB Mentok

BANGKA BARAT -- As part of its commitment to inclusive education and vocational skills development, PT Timah Tbk collaborated with SLB Negeri Mentok and the Provincial Education Office of the Bangka Belitung Islands to hold a Batik Training Workshop using the Eco Print method, held on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 6–7, 2025.

This activity is part of PT Timah’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program in the education sector, particularly for people with disabilities. The training aims to support the development of skills and self-reliance among students with special needs.

Through this workshop, both students and teachers from SLB Negeri Mentok were introduced to eco-friendly batik-making techniques using the Eco Print method. It is hoped that these skills will foster greater independence and open up future economic opportunities.

The training was officially opened by the Head of the Regional Education Office for West Bangka Region IV, Yulizar, and featured a professional instructor from Flo Eco Print Pangkalpinang.

According to Yulizar, this training reflects PT Timah’s genuine concern for vocational education and the creative development of students with special needs.

“We really appreciate PT Timah’s attention to education, especially within the SLB environment. Hopefully, this training will provide valuable skills and open up opportunities for our children to become independent in the future,” said Yulizar.

Arif Jananto, Principal of SLB Negeri Mentok, said that this was not the first time PT Timah had supported their school. He noted that this Eco Print training is a continuation of the school’s existing Batik Taber program.

“Thank you to PT Timah for its continuous support. Through this training, we aim to broaden the skill sets of our teachers and students, so they can develop strong vocational competencies for the future,” said Arif.

The students enthusiastically welcomed the training. Nada Salsabila, a hearing-impaired middle school student, expressed her happiness through sign language.

“Very happy, and thank you PT Timah,” she signed.

Meidita Nazila, a high school student with intellectual disabilities, also expressed her joy by raising her thumb with a smile during the training session.

“Really happy,” she said with a thumbs-up.

PT Timah continues to demonstrate its commitment to inclusive education, one of which is through this vocational training program. By equipping students with practical skills, PT Timah hopes that graduates of SLB will be competitive and self-reliant in both social and economic aspects.

Previously, PT Timah also collaborated with SLB Negeri 1 Mentok to organize the PT Timah Disabled Entrepreneur School program by providing training in juice making and batik crafting. (*)
