PANGKALPINANG - Reclamation is one of the important aspects of mining activities and the corporate social and environmental responsibility towards mining impacts. Therefore, PT Timah is committed to conducting reclamation.
Reclamation plans are an integral part of PT Timah's strategy to maintain ecosystem sustainability and ensure environmental balance. As a mining company concerned with environmental management, PT Timah consistently carries out reclamation.
PT Timah conducts reclamation both on land and at sea because mining activities are carried out both offshore and onshore. The reclamation pattern is also adjusted to environmental conditions.
In 2024, PT Timah will once again conduct marine reclamation in the Riau Islands Province and the Bangka Belitung Province. Marine reclamation conducted by PT Timah is an effort to preserve marine ecosystems.
In the Riau Islands Province, the planned marine reclamation includes constructing a 400-meter erosion barrier, restocking mangrove crabs with 1,400 individuals, and planting mangroves on a 2.5-hectare area.
Meanwhile, in the Bangka Belitung Province, the planned marine reclamation involves sinking 1,920 units of artificial reefs. The installation of artificial reefs will be carried out in the waters of Bangka Island. Additionally, restocking of squids with 20,000 individuals will also be conducted.
In conducting marine reclamation, as a member of the Mining Industry Holding MIND ID, PT Timah involves community groups, fishermen, and academics.
"In implementing the reclamation program, PT Timah also strives to empower the community so that this reclamation program can have economic impacts on the community," said the Head of Corporate Communication Department of PT Timah Tbk, Anggi Siahaan.
