BANGKA -- PT TIMAH Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to the welfare of fishermen in its operational areas. One tangible form of this concern is providing assistance to fishermen who experience accidents at sea.
One of the fishermen who received assistance from PT TIMAH Tbk is Sukardi (53), a traditional fisherman from the Nelayan II area, Sungailiat, Bangka Regency. Sukardi was involved in a maritime accident some time ago.
In the incident, the boat used by Sukardi sank due to bad weather and strong winds. Several important pieces of equipment, including a generator, GPS, and fiber equipment, also went down with the boat. Fortunately, Sukardi was rescued by other fishermen who were nearby at the time of the incident.
“Thank God I survived. The sea winds were very strong at that time. The incident happened on my way back. The boat capsized and some equipment, such as the GPS, sank. Thank God I survived because I was helped by fellow fishermen,” he recalled.
As a traditional fisherman, Sukardi said the incident disrupted his family’s economic condition. He was even forced to borrow money in order to be able to return to sea and meet daily needs.
The assistance from PT TIMAH Tbk will be used to replace damaged fishing equipment, repay loans, and support the continuity of Sukardi’s fishing activities.
“I have been a fisherman for a long time. Thank God, I am very happy and grateful to receive assistance from PT TIMAH. This support means a lot to us,” he said.
He also expressed his appreciation and hope that PT TIMAH Tbk’s commitment to helping fishermen will continue, including through other social programs such as free health check-ups for fishermen.
“Thank you very much. May PT TIMAH always prosper and continue to care for fishermen like us,” he said.
In addition to Sukardi, last week PT TIMAH Tbk also provided assistance to Bahar, the son of a fisherman who was involved in a maritime accident together with his father. PT TIMAH Tbk provided medical assistance for Bahar, who suffered burn injuries.
