PANGKALPINANG -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting the preservation of cultural heritage and traditions. This commitment is reflected not only through its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSR) programs in physical forms, but also through strengthening local customs and cultural values.
One tangible example of this support is PT TIMAH’s involvement in the Nuju Jerami traditional ritual celebration organized by the Mapur Indigenous Institution in Air Abik Hamlet, Gunung Muda Village, Bangka Regency.
The peak of the Nuju Jerami celebration took place at the Gebong Memarong Indigenous Village on Wednesday (April 29, 2026). The ritual serves as an important moment for the Mapur indigenous community to express gratitude for their harvest, both white rice and red rice. Nuju Jerami is a hereditary tradition rich in local wisdom and reflects the harmonious relationship between humans and nature.
The series of activities began with a traditional ritual procession led by the customary leader Abok Usang Gedoy along with the local community. The event continued with various cultural performances, including traditional dances performed by early childhood and elementary school students, pencak silat, and concluded with the Campak Dance.
Head of the Mapur Indigenous Institution, Asih Harmoko, stated that this year’s celebration carries the theme of maintaining the balance of nature. He also expressed appreciation for PT TIMAH’s consistent support in preserving Mapur culture.
According to him, PT TIMAH not only supports traditional events but also contributes to strengthening community capacity through various empowerment programs.
One example includes facilitating the writing of the book “Mapur Mendulang Kisah Meraup Berkah” in 2021, as well as providing training for MSMEs and local tour guides.
“PT TIMAH’s support truly empowers the indigenous community. We hope this synergy will continue in preserving and maintaining our culture,” he said.
Bangka Regent Fery Insani also expressed appreciation for PT TIMAH’s contribution to the development of the indigenous area.
He noted that the company’s support has had a positive impact on the community, including through the construction of facilities such as homestays that help drive local economic growth.
“I had the chance to see the building, and it is very well constructed by PT TIMAH and used as a homestay. PT TIMAH is also developing this community through CSR programs here. It is excellent. Hopefully PT TIMAH will continue to grow, stay close to the community, and provide real benefits, so that the circular economy can thrive,” Fery said.
Appreciation was also conveyed by Deputy Regent of Bangka, Syahbudin, who encouraged continued collaboration between PT TIMAH and the community in preserving cultural heritage.
Meanwhile, Member of Commission II of the Bangka Regional House of Representatives, Ruslina, stated that the Mapur indigenous community has directly benefited from PT TIMAH’s support since the early development of the indigenous village.
“PT TIMAH’s support has been extraordinary and directly felt by the community. This is clear evidence of the company’s commitment to cultural preservation,” she said.
The sustainability of the Nuju Jerami ritual plays an important role in maintaining the existence of the Gebong Memarong Indigenous Village as a center for preserving Mapur culture. To this day, the area continues to be developed as a cultural education space as well as a tourism destination that introduces local wisdom to a wider audience. (*)
