BANGKA – “Fortune favors the brave” — this proverb became the starting point for Ahmad Harlan Fadhillah, a student of PT Timah’s Pemali Boarding School, to chase his dreams.
Harlan, a native of Payung District, South Bangka Regency, has now entered his second year at SMAN 1 Pemali, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, with full support from PT Timah.
The Pemali Boarding School program by PT Timah has long been Harlan’s dream; to him, it is a pathway that can help him make his parents proud and elevate their social status.
“My motivation to study here comes from seeing my family’s economic difficulties. I have the desire to pursue something better through the Pemali Boarding School so that I can become more than what my parents expect and later raise their dignity,” Harlan shared recently.
The Pemali Boarding School scholarship program itself is PT Timah’s commitment to providing scholarships to outstanding students who face economic challenges, enabling them to receive free education.
Harlan said he not only received academic assistance but also character education and self-development coaching.
“Waking up at dawn to pray at the mosque together with friends, then exercising, some tidying up bicycles, and some preparing food — I’m very grateful to become more disciplined and independent,” he said.
“This opportunity is a blessing from God Almighty. There are many activities here that hone my talents both academically and non-academically,” he added.
Feeling deeply grateful, Harlan also expressed how much PT Timah has contributed to his education and to the students at Pemali Boarding School.
“PT Timah strongly supports Pemali Boarding School students by providing free books, pocket money, meals, and many activities in the dormitory. It’s almost impossible to describe them all because there are so many, and all are fully supported by PT Timah,” he explained.
“To me, PT Timah is like a ‘Golden Light’ that illuminates the souls of the nation’s generation towards a Golden Indonesia 2045,” he added proudly with a smile.
Ahmad Harlan Fadhillah encourages future generations who share his circumstances not to be afraid to dream and to keep doing positive things.
“Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat — fortune favors the brave,” he concluded. (*)
