BANGKA -- To support the social security program for fishermen groups, PT Timah provides social protection guarantees for fishermen and vulnerable groups in areas around the company's mines through the Employment Social Security Administration Agency (BPJS).
Through the Environmental Social Responsibility (TJSL) program, PT Timah registers and covers the costs of membership fees for fishermen and vulnerable groups for one year.
The benefits of this employment social security program are felt directly by fishermen groups in Bangka Regency. Chairman of the Bangka Regency HNSI, Lukman, said that as many as 500 fishermen had received employment social security facilitated by PT Timah.
Lukman said that the BPJS Employment Social Security program, which is facilitated by MIND ID Mining Industry Holding Member, PT Timah, has helped fishermen a lot, especially protection in the event of an unwanted disaster.
"Social security for fishermen in Bangka Regency, which is facilitated by PT Timah, has already registered 500 fishermen. This kind of program is important because we know that disaster can strike at any time and knows no time," said Lukman some time ago.
He said, apart from social security for employment, PT Timah also often helps fishermen who experience maritime accidents and other programs for fishermen such as assistance with fishing gear and mangrove planting.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Capture Fisheries Division of the Bangka Regency Fisheries Service, Ismed, appreciated PT Timah for pushing for a social security program for fishermen.
"BPJS Employment is often overlooked by fishermen, even though this is very important because we don't know that disaster can strike at any time. With the BPJS Employment social security program from PT Timah for our fishermen, the Government appreciates this," he said.
According to him, apart from physical assistance such as fishing gear or other programs, it is necessary, but social protection guarantees are also no less important as a form of anticipation.
"If you look at the nominal value of BPJS Employment, it is small, but this is very beneficial for fishermen and their families. If at any time there is a disaster, we hope there will be no disaster," he said.
Ismed stated that marine accidents can happen at any time and happen to anyone. For this reason, he reminded fishermen to always be alert and careful when earning a living at sea.
"Hopefully in the future, PT Timah can also increase the BPJS Employment assistance quota for fishermen. So that more fishermen will receive employment social security protection," he said. (*)
