BANGKA -- Mahdarna no longer has to worry about her house collapsing. After receiving assistance for a proper home, the 66-year-old woman can now live in peace without the fear of her house falling apart.
Commonly known as Darna, she is a resident of Sinar Jaya neighborhood, Sinar Jaya Jelutung Sub-district, Bangka Regency. Previously, she had no choice but to stay in a nearly collapsed house due to financial hardship.
Every day, Darna works as a farmer, growing various vegetables and fruits in her yard, such as bananas, papayas, pumpkins, and other plants. The harvests are what she relies on for her daily needs.
Speaking last weekend, Darna shared how her house used to be in poor condition, with the roof nearly falling in and the walls full of holes from age.
During heavy rains or strong winds, Darna often had to find dry spots in the house to stay, and she faced these challenges alone. She has lived with the kindness of neighbors and family. Her generous personality has led many to offer her help.
Thanks to PT Timah, in collaboration with the local government and neighborhood leaders, Darna now has a decent place to live. She can enjoy her later years in greater comfort and peace.
“Before, I was afraid the roof would collapse on me because it was already falling apart. When it rained, the water came in everywhere. Now, I’m no longer afraid of the house collapsing. I never imagined I would get help to build this house,” said Darna last weekend.
Darna expressed her gratitude, saying PT Timah’s generosity has allowed her to live more comfortably. She also thanked the community for always looking out for her, which led to her receiving this much-needed home.
“I know PT Timah built this house. I hope PT Timah stays healthy and continues to grow so they can help people like me. Thank you, PT Timah, I’m truly grateful,” she said.
Meanwhile, the head of RT 2 in Sinar Jaya, Budianto, said Darna’s previous house was in terrible condition, with about 80 percent of it severely damaged and posing a danger to her.
“Grandma Darna lives here alone, and her house was about 80 percent damaged. The roof tiles were falling off, and the walls were almost transparent. We had already proposed this to the government, but it might have been delayed due to funding. Thankfully, PT Timah made it happen, and now Bik Darna can live more peacefully,” he said.
Budianto hopes PT Timah will continue contributing to the community in various social areas, as their presence is highly valued by the locals.
“PT Timah’s help came at the right time and was really needed. They’ve also helped many others in our community. Thank you, PT Timah. I hope you continue to thrive,” he added.
