BANGKA TENGAH -- A total of 137 houses in Kepola Village, Pangkalan Baru District, Bangka Tengah Regency were damaged by being hit by a tornado, Tuesday (29/3/2022) afternoon.

This disaster occurred at several points such as in RT 02, RT 03, RT 05, and RT 06. As a result of this disaster as many as 466 residents were affected.

To help ease the burden on the community, PT Timah Tbk swiftly handed over assistance in the form of basic necessities for public kitchens, and materials in the form of 1000 pieces of asbestos. As well as free health services through healthy cars for affected residents.

This assistance was handed over directly by the Director of Human Resources (HR) of PT Timah Tbk, Yennita to the Regent of Central Bangka Algafry Rahman accompanied by the head of the Central Bangka PKK Eva Algafry at the Refugee Command Post in Kepola Village, Central Bangka Regency, Thursday (31/3/2022).

Algafry said that of the 137 families affected by this disaster, seven houses were badly damaged and razed to the ground. Meanwhile, 466 people were affected.

"We are very touched and moved by many who care to help people affected by the disaster. Including PT Timah Tbk who came today to bring extraordinary food, building materials and health services," he said.

He assessed that the assistance delivered by PT Timah Tbk was very fast and precise so that it could ease the burden of the disaster victims.

"PT Timah Tbk is very correct, fast and precise, this shows concern for PT Timah Tbk so that it can help the community," he said.

He said his party was still opening refugee posts and public kitchens to meet the logistical needs of residents. With the help of basic necessities for the kitchen, this really helps the community.

Not only basic necessities, PT Timah Tbk also handed over hundreds of boxes of drinks, vegetables, spices and others.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Central Bangka DPRD, Me Hoa, appreciated the swift role of PT Timah Tbk in helping the community. For him to require the cooperation of all parties.

"We appreciate PT Timah who has been quick to help people affected by the disaster. We need mutual cooperation to resolve this and PT Timah has been extraordinarily concerned about helping people affected by this," he said.

He admits that building materials are one of the things that people really need. Currently, people still use tarpaulins to cover their houses.

"The Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) is limited, so this is needed by all parties. A lot of community donations have also been collected. We hope that this is just the beginning of assistance from PT Timah Tbk, hopefully later there will be other assistance," said Me Hoa.

The head of Kepola village, Edi Armanto, said that the basic food packages provided by PT Timah Tbk were sufficient to cover food needs for the next three days.

"A lot of basic needs, this will later be distributed to public kitchens. From the public kitchens it will be distributed to affected communities. This can take up to three days to meet community needs," he said.

He said that only PT Timah Tbk had submitted material assistance to repair residents' houses. This assistance is very much needed because many residents' houses have roof damage.

"Only PT Timah Tbk provided building materials, in this case the roof. This is really needed by the community because the roof is the one that is damaged the most. There are seven houses that have been razed to the ground," he said.**
