EAST BELITUNG -- The aging condition of Al Fatah Mosque in Lenggang Village, Gantung District, East Belitung Regency, has made renovations increasingly necessary. To support improvements to the place of worship, PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk has provided financial assistance.
Muhammad Iqbal, Secretary of Al Fatah Mosque, said that several parts of the building have deteriorated and require immediate repairs. The wooden roof framework, which has been in place since around the 1990s, has never been replaced, while some of its components have begun to deteriorate due to termite damage.
"The building is quite old, and the wooden framework has never been replaced since around the 1990s. The ceiling has also deteriorated and has collapsed in several places on multiple occasions. That is why we really need renovations," Iqbal said.
He explained that the mosque's management committee has prepared a renovation budget plan. However, raising the necessary funds has not been easy. Limited financial resources have prompted the committee to seek support from various parties to ensure that the repairs can be carried out.
Iqbal said the assistance is intended to support repairs to several parts of the mosque, including the wooden framework, ceiling, and roof. Meanwhile, the committee continues to raise additional funds to complete the renovations.
"We are very grateful for the assistance from PT TIMAH. This support means a great deal to us because the mosque has limited funds. With this assistance, we can begin addressing the most urgent repairs while continuing to seek additional funding from other sources," he said.
For residents of Lenggang Hamlet, Al Fatah Mosque serves not only as a place of worship but also as a gathering space that strengthens community ties and togetherness. The mosque also hosts women's religious study sessions and various social and religious activities.
Through the planned renovations, the mosque's management committee hopes to restore the building to a safer and more suitable condition, allowing residents to worship and participate in religious activities safely and comfortably. (*)
