PANGKALPINANG -- PT TIMAH Tbk held a meeting with representatives of community miners from four regencies on Bangka Island, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, to follow up on miners’ aspirations regarding tin mining issues in the region. The meeting took place at PT TIMAH Tbk’s Main Meeting Room on Wednesday (October 8, 2025).
The meeting was attended by PT Timah’s President Commissioner Agus Rohman, President Director Restu Widiyantoro, Finance and Risk Management Director Fina Eliani, Chairman of the Bangka Belitung DPRD (Regional House of Representatives) Didit Srigusjaya, Head of the Regional State Intelligence Agency (Kabinda) Jusak Tarigan, Acting Head of the Provincial Cooperative and SME Office Muslim, and representatives of community miners.
As a follow-up to the recent public demonstration, PT TIMAH Tbk’s President Director invited miner representatives to discuss technical matters regarding the determination of the Mining Business Service Compensation Value (NIUJP), which PT TIMAH Tbk set at IDR 300,000 with a 70 percent SN grade, in accordance with the miners’ demands.
President Director Restu Widiyantoro stated that PT TIMAH Tbk had accommodated the miners’ aspirations by raising the tin price from IDR 260,000 to IDR 300,000 per kilogram with a 70 percent SN grade. This adjustment took effect on October 8, 2025.
In addition, in response to the community’s demand for direct compensation to miners, PT TIMAH Tbk offered two solutions: community miners could collaborate on tin mining within PT TIMAH Tbk’s mining concession areas (IUP) through PT TIMAH Tbk’s business partners, or through cooperatives.
PT TIMAH Tbk also involved the Provincial Cooperative and SME Office of the Bangka Belitung Islands to explain the mechanisms for forming cooperatives, enabling community miners to establish their own cooperatives.
“PT TIMAH Tbk cannot buy directly from miners because regulations prohibit it. As a state-owned company, we must comply with the applicable laws. Therefore, the solutions we offer are through PT Timah’s existing business partners or cooperatives, since we can only provide compensation to legally recognized entities,” said the President Director during the dialogue with miner representatives.
Restu further explained that to accommodate the mining output of community miners within the company’s concession areas, the most immediate and practical arrangement would be through PT TIMAH Tbk’s existing partners, while miners prepare to establish their cooperatives.
“The solution we offer for purchasing or providing compensation through cooperatives can be implemented later, while in the meantime, miners can work with our business partners. Our main goal is to ensure that miners prosper, and that the people of Bangka Belitung can benefit from this prosperity,” Restu added.

Meanwhile, DPRD Chairman Didit Srigusjaya said that the dialogue was a follow-up to PT TIMAH Tbk’s agreement with the miners.
“PT TIMAH Tbk agreed on the price—IDR 300,000 per kilogram for 70 percent SN. This forum is an opportunity to discuss technical details because miners want fewer intermediaries in the sales process, so deductions aren’t too large. Based on ministerial regulations, PT TIMAH Tbk cannot buy directly from miners; transactions must go through business partners. A cooperative-based scheme was also discussed as another solution,” he said.
Didit emphasized that the discussion focused only on PT Timah’s concession areas, while mining outside those areas falls under the authority of the provincial and central governments.
“In this discussion, we only addressed PT Timah’s jurisdiction—we didn’t discuss areas outside its concessions. Hopefully, everything runs smoothly; the aspirations have been heard, and we ask that there be no more demonstrations. This is extraordinary—never before has a PT Timah director invited miners to jointly determine prices, and this will continue moving forward,” he said.
During the constructive dialogue, miner representatives from Central Bangka, West Bangka, South Bangka, and Bangka Regencies provided input and discussed their concerns.
One representative from South Bangka, Saman, expressed gratitude for the meeting, saying it provided clearer information on tin price certainty according to their demands. Although the price increase had been agreed upon, he hoped PT TIMAH Tbk would raise the price again in the future to further improve miners’ welfare.
“Our hope is that the price at the miner level can reach IDR 200,000, but we’re grateful that the price has already gone up. At the miner level, it’s now around IDR 150,000–160,000 per kilogram, compared to only about IDR 100,000 before. We hope the price will continue to rise so we can work safely and live more comfortably. When prices are good, it’s easier to afford daily needs and children’s schooling,” he said.
Similarly, Rahman, a representative from West Bangka, expressed gratitude that PT TIMAH Tbk accommodated all their demands. He said that dialogues like this help miners gain a better understanding.
“The community’s demands from October 6 regarding prices, the task force, and IUP, have been fulfilled by PT TIMAH Tbk. Although there’s a bit of disappointment since PT TIMAH Tbk could only set the price at IDR 300,000, which means about IDR 150,000 for wet tin, it’s still quite good. What people really wanted was the ability to sell their tin, and previously there were no buyers, which made things difficult. Thankfully, PT TIMAH Tbk has now provided a solution to sell directly through its business partners. That’s a big help,” he said.
He hoped that the increase in tin prices would help boost the local economy. According to him, as long as tin prices remain stable and buyers are available, the community’s economy will continue to grow.
“PT TIMAH Tbk also mentioned the business partners or CVs that can work with the community, which makes things easier. Hopefully, tin prices will continue to rise so that development in Bangka Belitung can progress. People will be willing to follow regulations as long as the prices are fair,” he added.
Likewise, Hendra, a miner representative from Bangka Regency, said that PT TIMAH Tbk had accommodated all of their main demands.
“This meeting is very encouraging and satisfying for us because we’ve reached good results. Miners can now feel happy. Thank you to PT Timah for agreeing on the price and addressing our demands. In the past, PT TIMAH Tbk seemed intimidating, but now we see that the company is open and willing to listen,” he said.
He added that the most practical solution for tin sales is through PT TIMAH Tbk’s business partners, since forming cooperatives would take more time, while miners need immediate income.
“We’re interested in forming cooperatives, but miners need to earn a living today. Setting up cooperatives takes time, so for now, we’ll work through existing partners. What miners really want is to mine safely, without raids, and to be able to sell their tin,” he concluded.
