EAST BELITUNG – PT Timah Tbk has distributed aid to residents affected by a tornado that struck Gantung Village and Selinsing Village in Gantung District, East Belitung, on Sunday (March 9, 2025).
This assistance is part of PT Timah’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program aimed at accelerating post-disaster recovery.
The company provided construction materials to help residents repair homes damaged by the disaster.
In addition, PT Timah also distributed essential food packages to all affected residents in Gantung and Selinsing.
Anggi Siahaan, PT Timah’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, stated that the company acted swiftly to deliver aid to the affected communities.
"We immediately mobilized to distribute building materials, including 500 sheets of zinc roofing, spandex, and lightweight steel. The exact quantity will be adjusted based on on-site needs," said Anggi.
According to reports, the tornado impacted 107 households, affecting 357 individuals. A total of 102 homes and two public facilities sustained damage, ranging from minor to severe.
PT Timah hopes that this assistance will help speed up the recovery process for the affected communities.
East Belitung Regent Kamarudin Muten expressed appreciation for the support provided by donors, including PT Timah, in helping the affected residents.
"We are grateful for the aid provided. Hopefully, it can be utilized immediately to repair homes so that residents can celebrate Eid in better conditions," said Kamarudin. (*)
