YOGYAKARTA — PT Timah Tbk welcomes a Waste Bank foster partner from Air Limau Village in the Indonesia Green Forestry Environment Expo 2023 which will be held on 2-5 March 2023 at the Jogja Expo Center, Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).
The exhibition with the theme 'Success of Indonesia's Folu Net Sink 2030 Through the Synergy of the Forestry Sector and Industrial Sector' was organized by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) in collaboration with the Yogyakarta Special Region Government.
As of 2018, the Air Limau Village Garbage Bank is a fostered partner of PT Timah Tbk which focuses on handling and controlling waste in Air Limau Village, Muntok District, West Bangka Regency.
The Head of Air Limau Village, Mexsi Diansyah, said that the Garbage Bank is a village program that is projected to educate the public regarding awareness of the importance of health and the environment.
According to Mexsi, the Garbage Bank is an innovation that departs from two different disciplines, namely banking management and environmental management. In this case, the Village Government is a facilitator in developing a Waste Bank.
“Whether or not the Garbage Bank is developing can be seen from the type of waste it processes. The more varied the waste that is processed, the more the Garbage Bank will grow," said Mexsi.
Mexsi stated that the products produced by the Waste Bank were not only circulating in the local market but also outside Bangka Island.
Mexsi admitted that people in Air Limau Village are now used to sorting waste. In addition, the level of public awareness in managing waste has also increased.
"They know which waste is productive (can still be processed) and which waste is unproductive. For waste that is still productive, they can exchange it for electricity tokens or pulses," said Mexsi.
As a result, Mexsi revealed, the volume of waste in Air Limau Village began to decrease, the community became more economically productive, and health and environmental awareness increased.
Some time ago, in commemoration of the 2023 National Waste Day, PT Timah Tbk together with the Government of Air Limau Village held a Seminar on National Waste Care Day (HPSN) with the theme 'Complete Waste Management for Community Welfare'. (**)
