Maintaining Mangrove Crab Conservation, PT Timah Tbk Releases Hundreds of Mangrove Crab Seeds on Karimun Island

KUNDUR -- To preserve mangrove crabs and increase the population, PT Timah Tbk through the Kundur Production Unit released hundreds of mangrove crabs on one of the islands in Karimun, Thursday (24/3/2022).

The release of thousands of Mangrove Seedlings was also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Head of the K3LH Division of PT Timah Tbk, Adam Darmawan.

This crab restocking is the company's effort to maintain the balance of the marine environment and ecosystem. In addition, it is hoped that later it will provide benefits to the community.

Mining Inspector Junior Expert Sub Coordinator for Environmental Protection of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Tiyas Nurcahyani said, PT Timah as a tin mining company has consistently carried out marine reclamation activities, planting mangroves and also releasing hundreds of crab seeds.

“The release of hundreds of crab seeds is also a way of restoring nature, which will have a good impact on the community. If the hundreds of crab seeds that we release today can breed naturally, then in the future the crab population can be maintained and the community can feel the impact," she said.

According to him, this program is in line with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources which is to carry out the environmental restoration. He hopes that this activity can be carried out continuously and can continue to be improved.

“Hopefully this program can be imitated by other companies. We hope that this is not only mangrove crabs but also more diverse types," he explained.

It is hoped that this crab seed release program will have an impact on the community and fishermen because mangrove crabs are quite attractive to the community and have promising economic prospects.*
